
Lear Jet Retract Manual
1.0 Overview
The Lear uses one retract servo
to the main gear and a second retract servo to operate the nose gear.
2.0 Main gear

Insert each retract into the
U-shaped 1/4" plywood mount. Mark and drill 4 holes and install the blind
nuts.

Make a 1/4" deep cutout in
each wing in the same
location as the fixed gear.

Mask the blind nuts with
masking tape to prevent glue from fouling the threads and glue the mount
into the wing with plenty of epoxy.

Using a Dremel tool and make
dugouts to accommodate the retract, the linkage, and the wheel.

Locate the retract servo at
the midline of the wing and install using plywood (not provided).

3.0 Nose gear
The nose gear is built as a drop in module complete with the retract
mechanism, the retract servo, the steering servo, and the necessary
linkages.

Position the 1/4" plywood
plate onto the two hardwood rails as shown in the picture below, and tape in
place.

Drill 4 holes 1" from the ends
of the rails.

Install 4 blind nuts. into the
rails.

Assemble the retract, and the
two servos as shown in the picture below.

Hook up the receiver and test
the whole mechanism.

Insert wax paper between the
mount plate and rails, and screw the mount plate to the rails.

Mask the blind nuts to prevent
glue from fouling the threads.

Make a suitable dugout to
accommodate this assembly in the
location
of the fixed nose gear.

Dry fit first. Drop the
retract module into the dugout and glue the rails in place with plenty of
epoxy.

Once glue has set the retract
module can be removed by removing 4 screws.
