Lear Jet Retract Manual

1.0 Overview
The Lear uses one retract servo to the main gear and a second retract servo to operate the nose gear.

2.0 Main gear

  • Insert each retract into the U-shaped 1/4" plywood mount. Mark and drill 4 holes and install the blind nuts.

  • Make a 1/4" deep cutout in each wing in the same location as the fixed gear.

  • Mask the blind nuts with masking tape to prevent glue from fouling the threads and glue the mount into the wing with plenty of epoxy.

  • Using a Dremel tool and make dugouts to accommodate the retract, the linkage, and the wheel.

  • Locate the retract servo at the midline of the wing and install using plywood (not provided).

3.0 Nose gear
The nose gear is built as a drop in module complete with the retract mechanism, the retract servo, the steering servo, and the necessary linkages.

  • Position the 1/4" plywood plate onto the two hardwood rails as shown in the picture below, and tape in place.

  • Drill 4 holes 1" from the ends of the rails.

  • Install 4 blind nuts. into the rails.

  • Assemble the retract, and the two servos as shown in the picture below.

  • Hook up the receiver and test the whole mechanism.

  • Insert wax paper between the mount plate and rails, and screw the mount plate to the rails.

  • Mask the blind nuts to prevent glue from fouling the threads.

  • Make a suitable dugout to accommodate this assembly in the location of the fixed nose gear.

  • Dry fit first. Drop the retract module into the dugout and glue the rails in place with plenty of epoxy.

  • Once glue has set the retract module can be removed by removing 4 screws.
